Chroma's 63800R Series Regenerative AC Electronic Loads address the testing needs of energy storage systems (ESS), hybrid PV inverters, AC EV charging equipment (AC EVSE), bidirectional onboard chargers (BOBC), and other emerging energy and high-power applications. This series offers 15kVA single-unit capabilities and energy recovery, meeting the demands of high-power testing while returning high-power energy to the grid. Compared to traditional heat-dissipating methods, the 63800R achieves greater efficiency aligning with the global push toward energy-neutral operations.
With the Chroma 63800R Softpanel®, Chroma provides a user-friendly software solution as a convenient and efficient alternative to manually operating the unit.
▲ The software supports control of up to 3 units of the 63800R series and can connect via GPIB, USB, and Ethernet.
Fixed Mode supports seven different operating modes, selectable via a drop-down menu:
Allows configuration of current amplitude, Crest Factor (CF), and Power Factor (PF). Advanced settings include On/Off Degree, Slew Rate, and CF/PF priority. Upon pressing Load ON, the system applies the load as configured.
▲ CC Mode (Constant Current)
Set the desired resistance value. Upon pressing Load ON, the system calculates and sinks the required current based on measured voltage to maintain the set resistance.
▲ CR Mode (Constant Resistance)
Set power amplitude, CF, and PF settings, along with advanced options like On/Off Degree and Slew Rate. Upon pressing Load ON, the system applies the load as configured.
▲ CP Mode (Constant Power)
Supports basic settings such as current amplitude and CF as well as load waveform selection (e.g., sinusoidal, positive/negative half-waveforms, Leading, Trailing). Advanced settings include On/Off Degree and Slew Rate. Upon pressing Load ON, the system applies the load as configured.
※Note: Advanced settings and CF configuration are available only for sinusoidal waveforms.
▲ CC Rectified Mode
Configure apparent power and CF along with advanced settings like On/Off Degree and Slew Rate. Load ON applies the load as configured.
▲ CS Rectified Mode
Configure basic settings like current amplitude and phase angle along with advanced settings including On/Off Degree, Slew Rate, and phase limit toggle. Load ON applies the load as configured.
※Note: The phase limit is set to On by default. To set phase to >90° or <90°, the limit must be toggled Off.
▲ CC Lead/Lag Mode
Configure basic settings like apparent power and phase angle along with advanced settings including On/Off Degree, Slew Rate, and PF/Degree selection. Load ON applies the load as configured.
※Note: When PF is selected, the Degree setting switches to PF with options for Lead or Lag.
▲ CS Lead/Lag Mode
The software allows up to 100 sets of current amplitude, CF, and PF settings. Dwell times range from 1 second to 1,000,000 seconds, with Loop settings for flexible and prolonged cyclic testing.
For example, first drawing 5A for 3 seconds, switching to 10A for 2 seconds, switching to 7A for 5 seconds, switching to 9A for 1 second, and finally switching to 3A for 2 seconds, with a Loop count of 1. The total runtime would be 13 seconds, after which output will automatically stop.
