Chroma Joins Hands with Public Television to Bring Children's Film Festival to Elementary Schools in Remote Areas

Chroma Foundation has partnered with Taiwan Public Television Service to bring the Taiwan International Children's Film Festival (TICFF) to elementary schools in rural areas. This initiative aims to ensure that children in these regions, despite geographical limitations and resource constraints, have access to a diverse and international selection of high-quality films. Through these experiences, the program also seeks to educate and inspire children's civic awareness and broaden their international perspectives.

The 2024 TICFF revolved around themes of self-discovery, unlocking potential, finding courage, and enriching life experiences. The touring program was focused on the narrative theme of "My Hero's Journey". Chroma was honored to participate in two school tour events, one on Taiwan proper and one its outlying islands. Films with a variety of themes were selected for screening, with the aim of supplementing areas sometimes lacking in rural school education and contributing to the children’s personal growth.

On September 26th, the film tour visited the century-old Ma-guang Elementary School in Tuku Township, Yunlin County. Ninety students and teachers from four 5th and 6th grade classes participated in the screening of the German feature film "Die drei !!!". Parenting expert Luo Yi-chun was invited to interact with the students after the screening, guiding them to think about the differences between adventure and danger, as well as legal issues, from different perspectives. This provided valuable insights for the upper-grade students approaching adolescence.。

On October 16, the tour continued to Bo-Tsun Elementary School in Jinhu Township, Kinmen County. Eighty-eight students and teachers from four middle and high-grade classes participated in the screening, centered around the theme "Life's Big Questions". The films included the Korean animation "Hair Universe", the Israeli drama "Seaweed", the Czech animation "Dede Is Dead", and the French film "Granny's Cookies". After the screening, Lin Chiu-wan, an experienced teacher, was invited to guide the children in using tablets to answer questions and create impromptu drawings of their imaginations of heaven, adding a touch of levity to make these topics more approachable.

The Taiwan International Children's Film Festival (TICFF), established in 2004, is the first international competitive children's film festival in Asia. Over the years, it has received more than 8,000 submissions from over 100 countries. To maximize the impact of these works, Taiwan Public Television Service has carefully planned viewing activities specifically for children and adolescents. They provide pre- and post-screening discussions and analyses based on the film themes, while also incorporating care for rural areas and aligning with the Ministry of Education's current curriculum to bridge the digital divide. By screening these high-quality films, young students in remote, rural, and other areas of concern can learn, reflect, and discover more possibilities for themselves, enhancing their core competencies.

The Chroma Foundation is actively involved in a wide range of social initiatives through its four core pillars: STEM Education, Humanities and Arts, Environmental Sustainability, and Caring and Sharing. Through a strategy that combines its core corporate capabilities with education and social welfare programs, the foundation continues to promote a positive cycle of social well-being and sustainable development.
