FPD-Link™ (Flat Panel Display Link) is a high-speed data transmission interface standard developed by Texas Instruments. It is widely used in automotive applications, including navigation systems, in-car entertainment, rear-view cameras, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). By integrating complex vehicle wire harnesses, FPD-Link helps reduce vehicle weight and simplifies installation for automakers.

The Chroma A270163 FPD-Link Signal Module supports the latest FPD-Link™ IV transmission rates while remaining compatible with FPD-Link™ III. A single port offers five configurable lane rates (3.375 / 6.75 / 10.8 / 12.528 / 13.5 Gbps), while dual-port configurations deliver up to 27Gbps, supporting either 8K resolution or 240Hz refresh rate.


To accommodate today's evolving vehicle interiors, the A270163 supports testing of a wide range of panels with special aspect ratios. Users can customize different testing parameters according to their requirements, enabling flexible testing applications while reducing production costs.
The module provides dynamic automotive display simulations, allowing internal DDR storage (8G) to support continuous image playback. With millisecond-level rapid image updates, it is ideal for real-world display output testing.




Today's in-vehicle signal transmission is divided into single-ended signals and differential signals. Single-ended signals transmit signals through a single transmission line at a lower cost, while differential signals use two single-ended signal lines (P line and N line) to transmit differential signals simultaneously, which can reduce interference from external noise. The A270163 signal module supports dual output of both single-ended and differential signals, providing a comprehensive test solution for in-vehicle displays under test (DUTs).


The A270163 supports testing at selectable color depths of 6, 8, and 10 bits. For example, a 10-bit color depth means each primary color is divided into 1024 levels (210), capable of displaying up to 10.7 billion colors (210 R * 210 G * 210 B), allowing users to customize the test application as needed.
The A270163 module supports daisy chaining and splitting, allowing multiple panels to receive image output from a single FPD-Link signal source. This simplifies wiring and enables multi-screen output (up to 4 streams) with up to 8K resolution. Independent streams can be toggled between different interfaces for versatile testing applications. The status of the testing process can be viewed in real-time through an on-screen display (OSD) window.
The A270163 module comes equipped with multiple DMS (Display Measurement Specifications) test patterns defined by the DFF (Deutsches Flachdisplay Forum), including grayscale, color bars, window patterns, and other standard test images for various user applications.

Equipped with an embedded eMMC multimedia card, the module can store between 300 to 1200 BMP image files* at a maximum resolution of 8K each. Users can add custom test patterns to meet diverse testing requirements.

SSC (Spread Spectrum Clocking) is used to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the equipment itself. It works by changing or dispersing signals at the same frequency to reduce peak radiation power, thereby reducing interference between devices. The SSC setting allows users to enable/disable modulation frequencies in the 30,000 - 33,000 Hz range with a 0.25% spread.


The A270163 module includes a Built-In Self-Test (BIST) mode with 18+2 standard test patterns. Users can edit the required screens and simulate transmitter (TX) signals in BIST mode for convenient verification and comparison.
The module is equipped with external control including a 12V power system (such as Wake-Up voltage) and 8 independent GPIO controls (input/output). I2C can also read DUT information through Passthrough for future peripheral applications.
The A270163 module includes a built-in automotive system script editor, allowing configuration and control of the equipment. This feature is especially useful in early-stage design, validation, and production testing, enabling users to adjust, control, and test the DUT on-the-fly and thereby greatly reduce operational time.


The Link Diagnostics function detects and analyzes the data link's status and performance. Combining features such as reading model numbers, CRC/ECC error detection, fault location, and real-time monitoring, this function helps users to quickly identify issues, enhance system reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and support long-distance transmission ideal for testing of automotive electronic systems.
